Julia Honda
Coach Julia Honda, a former Cardiff Mustangs player, is excited to join the Cardiff Sockers coaching staff. Born and raised in Encinitas, CA, Julia developed a deep love for the game through years of playing in the local community. She started her soccer journey in Cardiff’s recreational program before joining the Cardiff Mustangs, where she played under Coach Juan Suarez and later Kraig Chiles. Julia says, “I am grateful for the Cardiff coaches who have shaped the players and the club into what it is today. I am proud to have come back every year to help coach and now get to experience that on a larger scale within the club.”
Julia played four years of NCAA Division III soccer at the Illinois Institute of Technology, where she earned both a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master of Science in Industrial-Organizational Psychology. Her academic interests centered around training and development, organizational design, team dynamics, and leadership—many of which she applies to her coaching today.
Her coaching style and philosophy focus on building foundational skills that can be applied both on and off the field. She is a big believer in helping these kids grow into well-rounded individuals. Her biggest influences in life were always her coaches, and she walked away from teams feeling like a better person than when she joined. She wishes to emulate that environment for her players.
